I honestly can’t WAIT for Maxson’s Brotherhood to interact with the remnants of the NCR.

“Like the Brotherhood - they were really good allies against the enclave, but fundamentally they’re just a little inbred cult. No outsiders, no new technology, but damn good with their power armor. Then they went crazy and we had to take Helios. Now they’re just hold up in their bunkers”

And then Maxson just… isnt that.

A massive cult of personality (the kind that the NCR used to mock about Roger Maxson) able to inspire, uplift and enlist THOUSANDS. A faction not only with the capability and technology to have power armor and vertibirds, but the capacity to Mass Produce them too.

A combination of Western Zealotry, Lyon’s Reforms, and a healthy amount of overwhelming firepower

Arthur is a unifying symbol that can take the isolated and sometimes contradicting Brotherhood Chapters and forge them into a Nation. He has two successful campaigns under his belt and two Fusion Reactor.

He has Liberty Prime.

I’m FASCINATED by what he’ll do. Will he reject Elijah and the War and give them an olive branch in their time of need? Will Arthur double down and seek revenge, using this opportunity to finish off the weakened NCR? Or maybe he just… ignores them?

His primary goal is, now that the Brotherhood has 2 cold fusion reactors, is going to be rebuild Lost Hills and then take Vegas, Helios One and the Hoover Dam. That was the original mission of Elijah’s chapter, after all and three incredible storehouses of pre-war tech. But I could honestly see him doubling down and trying to turn LA into a Fortress for the Brotherhood.

I honestly dont know - according to his stated goals, he has no reason to intervene against the NCR when peace is entirely likely. But he’s a Monarch fundamentally, and Monarchs dont like threats to their power.

Good news is he probably wipes out the Legion or whatever’s left of it!

Kissing the man who had been her closest friend forever while on a walk along the ramparts should have been a dream come true. Yet one thought plagued Faewryn and she pulled back with a start like her own mind had zapped her. 

“Is this normal?” Faewryn asked, gripping Eldarion’s sleeves so tight the fabric wrinkled beneath her white knuckled fingertips. Her heart threatened to gallop out of her chest, pounding an atypical rhythm against her ribs. 

Eldarion chuckled, brushing his nose against hers as he went in for another kiss. She sank into it, body melting against his.

“Normal?” he hummed against her lips, mind anywhere except the trail her rapid sprint 

“We’ve known each other since childhood, have done everything together, our parents have known each other for decades…I don’t think you can get much more normal than that.” he said lightly, though his eyes searched hers as he pulled back to really look at her. “Why wouldn’t it be, Fae?” 

She ran her hands up and down his sleeves, finding grounding in the feeling of the fabric beneath her hands. She painstakingly smoothed out every wrinkle she had created as she gathered her thoughts. 

“We’ve known each other forever.” she started hesitantly. “What if we aren’t meant to do this. What if it's not normal and we ruin it all?” 

It was obvious to her that Eldarion was trying to remain neutral, though the corner of his mouth inched up into a grin despite himself, “You’re worried because we’ve known each other…too long?” 

“Eldarion!” she exclaimed, stepping back to throw her hands up in the air and move her feet as she paced along the rampart. She paused on the edge, looking out across the fields outside the city. 

He came up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his chin on her shoulder. It was a familiar action, a position they’d been in countless times over the years even before their feelings had snuck out the cracks. She relaxed back against his chest, despite herself. 

“We can go down to one of the taverns in plainclothes.” he offered. “And I can pretend that I’ve spotted you across the bar, become enamored, and announce my intentions to win your hand.” 

She glowered at him from the corner of her eye and she caught a glimpse of his smirk before she looked back out across the city walls and fields. Banners bearing the White Tree snapped along the walls in the wind, a reminder of the great city but also the tall tales surrounding it. 

“Is love supposed to feel this…mundane?” she wondered aloud, admitting despite herself the one thing that had been troubling her. “This all feels so…easy.” 

Their parents’ love stories were too great to tell outside of a ballad or story, even though her own parents insisted time and time again that it was no grand tale. Though she’d certainly seen many mundane moments shared between her parents as they’d settled into post-war life, so she’d been told, she had no idea what that was meant to look like for herself. 

Eldarion pressed a kiss to her cheek, “What was that thing your mother always told me when I would get too impatient in training?” 

Faewryn paused, thinking about all the various things Wulfwryn had tossed Eldarion’s way in every training session she had attended. 

“That she and many others want things to be normal for their children?” she hedged a guess and Eldarion nodded, his scruff scratching against her cheek. She ducked back to avoid it, pressing herself more tightly against his chest. 

Eldarion said, “Have you considered that maybe the same goes for love? That getting to know each other long enough and being stable enough to fall in love is the very blessing those who fought were hoping for?” 

She pondered on this, worrying her lower lip between her teeth. She tilted her head back to look up at him, running her fingers along his that wrapped around her waist. 

“Do you think so?” she asked. 

He pressed a kiss to her forehead. “I think many would consider us the lucky ones.”

critter followers i will have u KNOW. last thursday i was all caught up and i could have watched live but i decided not to for whatever reason and this week has been crazy busy for me (11hr shift today due to science taking forever) so i’m not caught up now (sad).

hrm hrm hrm ... under the assumption that love, at least for the first question, extends to its platonic and familial forms, then the simple answer would be the phrase from her inspiration tag, "love is pain. pain is punishment". the third part would simply repeat, "and punishment is love".

although I've discussed her view on romantic love in small headcanons, I do not think it would stray too far from her ideals surrounding familial and platonic love. after all, are all forms of love not customary for obligation? is there not something to be given and laid in your partner's hands no matter the bond?

while I highly disagree with the notion that Zephia had any actual love, whether romantic or any, for Sombron, as she debunks this thought when speaking to Griss in Chapter 23, the way she behaves towards him is what she would expect from her partner; obedient, eager to please, and attentive to all she says. since he was the one to find her, centuries ago, she is the one who owes him all she is. servitude is the only expression of love that she believes is genuine.

anyone can say they love you. anyone can perform grand feats of public love. anyone can open their coin pouch and buy a gift in your name. but only a few can, without hesitation, throw themselves at your feet to make you smile.

the only difference between romantic, familial, and platonic love is the degree of affection; and how much you would sacrifice and lose in their name. "love is pain. pain is punishment. and punishment is love." can you really love someone if you are not willing to cut out their heart at the happenstance of betrayal? what of infidelity? failure? pain and punishment will always have a place in Zephia's heart, and, as such, will be equally taught to those she loves.

if you do not commit to the part, then you will be punished. if you do not reciprocate, then you will be hurt. to be loved, and be able to love, is the consent to withstand the inevitable pain that follows any relationship. and because Zephia will only love someone she sees as worthy, first, then her approach calls for their servitude, not the other way around.

love is pain, but that pain is not a two-way street until you tilt the scales of the hierarchy and step out of line.

2. A headcanon you weren't sure about at first but have come to like!

Ooh this one is kinda tough~ I'm generally rather removed from the fandom at large so I actually don't really know of a lot of popular headcanons out there, let alone ones I initially didn't like and came to like~ I really only ever consumed content about Baatar and Kuvira as they're my favorites, and with them I'd either like a headcanon outright, or dislike it outright. I will say, at least in the limited fan content I've consumed, there is a common idea of Baatar having gone to university in Ba Sing Se for a period of time. I've seen at least 3 folks use that in their writings for him, and while it was never something I was "unsure" about, I didn't initially include the idea in my version of him. I don't know who penned that headcanon first but I was always hesitant about being seen as "copying" anyone lol. I do like the idea though, especially with my very codependent versions of Baatar and Kuvira, some time apart like that during their "good years" would be rather interesting, since they have been in each other's lives for most of their lives, Baatar choosing to go where Kuvira can't follow- even for a short period of time, I can see her holding against him for a little while. Especially with her preexisting abandonment issues.

9. A ship that isn't your OTP but you enjoy

Once again I'm pretty singularly invested in Baatar and Kuvira but there are definitely some canon and fan ships that I like! Canon wise I'll always have a soft spot for Bolin and Opal, just because they're cute and I like the potential dynamic it creates with Baatar specifically. A lot of it is pretty contingent on my rewrite versions, but what can I say, I'm a bit of a sucker for puppy love. Lyn and Kya was an early ship I'd see in the fandom that I always was like *Kermit nodding gif* ooh yeah I like that, and I've also seen Lyn and Bumi which I also really like, but I never really delved into fan works of either admittedly. I'll confess that lately the crack ship of Baatar and Zhu Li has been on my mind, but definitely not as a positive ship in any way, more like a mutually waged psychological warfare that they aren't even trying to hide from each other kind. I don't remember what sparked the idea- I'm not usually one for crack ships as I tend to be pretty single-ship through and through, but it's been a fun dynamic to think about, especially the kinds of conversations they'd have.

Now if DT gives me more delicious fuel much of it is subject to change, but tentatively as of now they 'hooked up' post-EW. I headcanon in several months after Ultima Thule and before the void plot starts up, which Ahru spent mostly recovering, checking in on friends and family post-Final Days, doing allied quests, or moping about aimlessly not knowing what to do with herself.

She didn't take the Scion break-up very well (though she keeps this to herself and she understands why they did it). Somewhere in that funk, her and Erenville cross paths, and he invites her along on some rather simple work with him, and a gradual friendly flirtation grows that leads to some... benefits. Bunnyfits.

As of now it's all fairly casual and straightforward, with the potential complications/growth waiting primarily for DT developments. There is also a semi-secret tentative oopsie baby subplot floating around in my head (but that's another 'we'll see how Dawntrail plays out'.) Look how cute tho.

while a dangerous object in its own right, Midna intentionally left behind the shadow crystal in Link’s care after leaving the light realm. many would ( rightly ) assume she did so because it was safest in his possession, but she also had a rather selfish intention by doing so.

despite the only known means of traversing between the two realms now destroyed, Midna has hopes to create another method to find a way back to her beloved companions. namely, by trying to trace the crystal’s unique magical signature across the realms. because it is an object created by the combined power of Zant and Ganon, she believes it is usual enough to potentially lead her towards its owner — and by extension work as an anchor to the other realm.

what she did not anticipate is Zant’s essence, and basically his magic, was scattered across the twilight realm upon his defeat. this has made Midna’s experiments of locating said object more difficult, thus rendering her attempts to find a way back to the light realm a harder task. however, this has not put her off on trying by means. spite has always been one of her driving factors, especially when it came to the usurper, so despite these unexpected obstacles the twili ruler remains very much determined to see her goal through, no matter how long it may take.

( my own personal headcanon leans towards that she is eventually able to do so, but a such a great time has passed in the light realm that her own Link and Zelda are no longer alive. though devastated, Midna tries to make the best of this outcome and goes on to work with the Hyrule royal family ( and, by extension, lend a hand in restoring the Sheikah ) to establish a means of peace and commerce between the two realms. )

I would like to make an addendum to this piece with the new chapter out and say that I was wrong about Phillip, he's great, 10/10 he went from being a giant red flag of a character to being genuinely relatable and man do i feel bad about side-eyeing him for that line he said last chapter

Also this chapter finally wrapped up another plot thread I was waiting for it to return to and waaaaaah seeing someone else's POV on Helene is so nice (and we finally got another flashback of OG Helene for like,, the first time in literally forever). Helene being called out as a lonely person who hides her kind feelings behind a cold expression...man suddenly my fondness for Helene is increasing thousandfold

Like literally how the fuck does this manga keep making Helene better and better there's literally nothing disappointing about her character and im STILL shook about it
